A question for people who see this:

Where are you more active? Here, or on BlueSky?

For me, it feels... mmm... Why should I bother using Mastodon? I'd like for it to be worthwhile, but no matter what I post, or how much I post, only like 2 or 3 people on average bother interacting with anything I post here through an *entire day*. Meanwhile, over on BlueSky, all my friends are there, and I get attention throughout the day for posting anything, on everything I post. It's why I haven't been posting here in a while. It feels like a waste of my time shouting into the void where no one will care that I exist.

It...makes me sad, honestly. It feels like just because BlueSky exists, no one wants anything to do with Mastodon.

@nimonomiyoa

It's a bit of a Catch-22, innit.

Fewer people are on Mastodon because one can interact with others more elsewhere.

But that also means even less interaction with people on Mastodon.

So Mastodon would be the best option only after it has become the best option, which is perfectly circular.

I have no desire or need to move over to BlueSky, but I get people who do.

@oddtail Exactly :C Even if BlueSky ends up turning terrible, I'm betting people still won't move here, because some other Twitter-like will pop up first :c

@nimonomiyoa I'm here... I'm linked up to Bridgy (I think?), but no interactions there so far.

Yeah, it's often kinda the same clique here, huh? Network effects... People go where others go, even if it's the corpo place

@mizah Yeah, I know. You're one of the few people I know will interact with me if I post anything!

@nimonomiyoa

FWIW, I am a super socially awkward person with no friends initially as I moved to Mastodon, and I managed to develop a lot of connections over the years. It just took time.

But I dunno, maybe it's the REASON I stuck around here. It's not like I'd had many friends over on Twitter. So I had no reason to stay.

*shrug*

@nimonomiyoa Come for the interactions, stay for the one weird Internet dragon

@mizah There's hardly any interactions for me here, though!

@nimonomiyoa Mostly here, though I do check both.

I like the abundance of features here, excellent content warning system, and just in general it feels more relaxed here in the subjects people talk about.

The fact that meow.social is ran by furries - several of which in our own macro community - is good peace of mind for it's future as well.

@Zeem Yeah, I like the features here, too. I just hate how 90% of the time when I post, it's like shouting into the void. No one to listen. I don't get why others are having different experiences, but that's mine!

@nimonomiyoa honestly it gets hard to keep up

it’s a situation where people will always think of the bright shiny thing first because it’s convenient

But it eventually turns on them because the company doesn’t really care about you or your ability to talk to your friends beyond being an active user for their monthly reports so they can fetch that money money money

Paid user features? Sure, but now they have another 15 million dollar loan that the investors want, plus whatever unreasonable growth target they might want

When it goes, be it a year, 2, or 10, I’ll probably still be here

And I’m always up for a chat, whatever platform you pick

(It is past midnight here but I hope you have a good day!)

@nimonomiyoa Yeah, I can't say I get a whole lot either, unless I'm being macrotrashy I'm often lucky to get a like at all on any site :P You definitely do better than me in that respect.

I try to trust that even if people don't interact, the posts are being seen and appreciated. It gives people a window into my side of life even if they have nothing to add to it.

@nimonomiyoa That's kind of where I'm at myself. Like, I do use BlueSky more often for the same reasons of interacting more with folks, but I also like having Mastodon as a place where I can make longer posts if I have an urge to info dump at all. Especially with cohost going under, I expect to use Mastodon even more now. Plus I have friends here too. So they both have their benefits.
